Polled. Finish Line *x is the first natural calf out of 264 *x. She might not be the most impressive of her full sisters, but when the shows are over with, it’s the one that makes a cow that’s important. She reminds us a lot of some of our old Irish females, super long fronted, and feminine, beautiful udder. Polled. Sometimes you just know. We need a lot of different types of bulls in our breed to go along with our great females. I think the number one problem in our breed is birth weight. Many may argue this, but how many times have you stood there thinking (you know, that would have been a “great one” if he had lived). There are never any guarantees with breeding cattle, but we’ve never raised a bull calf that we are more confident in than “Finish Line”. His physical make-up, extremely smooth through his shoulder, medium bone, long fronted, tremendous style and balance all point to calving ease. Then you get to his pedigree, two of the most dominant females in our breed, Mirage and Mona Lisa mated with two of the most powerful bulls in our breed, Trump X and Legend, have produced a bull calf that we think can impact the breed for years. *x. This heifer is young and was at a cooperator herd so we couldn’t
get a picture. The National Champion Warrior is popping up
more and more in good cattle pedigrees these days. Much like we
predicted about Pretender, Warrior needs to be used again. This
one will show! And when you’re done, who knows, you might
have yourself another “3127”.

This old “crossbred” cow would be the envy of most purebred cattlemen. The appendix program is here to stay, it’s Hot! Their marketable and if you don’t try to take advantage of it, you’re crazy! When we showed Smokey she was rarely beat-en. We couldn’t count the number of times someone would come up to ask what she was. It was fun to be able to tell them she was half Shorthorn.
